ASUS Eee PC X101 Netbook (ep.5)

Main use: School of note taking and writing mobile
Pros:
- Keyboard is quiet while typing
- Boots in 17 seconds (yes, I counted!)
- Loads of chrome quickly and smoothly, even with multiple tabs open
- GoogleDocs smooth
- YouTube works perfectly, Hulu gets an A-
- MeeGo only takes about an hour to get used to and is quite friendly
- Skype works well even in full screen
- Overall, the mini is very light, very thin lined, and can admit it, adorable.
- Battery life, my uptime is 1 hour and I have consumed 29% of the battery, with wireless connection.
Cons:
- Some knowledge terminal will be useful, most of the basic commands
- Get new programs to appear on MyArea can be a pain
- Touchpad Mouse Click is very strong and clumsy, so get used to use the touchpad to click (two fingers registration will give you right click on the results)
- Keyboard can be hard to navigate and be precise with nails
- Can not use Netflix at this point (does not meet the system requirements Netflix)
Would I recommend it, yes! Great mini for a great price.

Acer Aspire One AOD255E Netbook (ep.6)

Nice Compact Laptop

This laptop serves its purpose. It’s small, compact, portable and lightweight. It goes everywhere. It is not intended to handle the heavy workload of a regular PC. It is very comfortable on my lap. It feels a little warm on my thighs.
The monitor is small but sufficient. I have no problem reading the screen.
The keyboard is very cramped. I can not type on it. If you expect to sit on the beach and type the next great American novel, look elsewhere. I find it impossible to do anything other than correct and edit documents I’ve created on my PC at home. This notebook, however, accept a full-size keyboard. Just plug one in and you’re good to go. Same for a regular mouse. Use the touchpad (or something like that) is a slow process if you’re not used to it. It has three ports to accept keyboard, mouse and flash drive at the same time.
I have not hooked the laptop to the Internet, and I do not intend to. I bought it only as a word processor free phones. Not connect to the Internet means that I do not have to worry about viruses destroying my work.
I have been on this thing for a couple of hours without the battery going dead. It recharges quickly.
Ladies, you can drag this thing in a large purse, take it to the station and play games or read while waiting for the oil change. It comes pre-filled with several games, including used alone, without cells and hearts.
A disadvantage of this device is that it comes with Windows 7 Starter, which does not allow the user to change the wallpaper on the desktop. You will forever look at the blue screen by default. I suspect that is more than a small annoyance of most PC users. I hate that aspect of it. I guess this was done to save energy or something, but I would be happy to give up some power to be able to customize the screen for me. It has a few screen savers.
Another drawback is the noise. Even at high volume, I can barely hear it. There is a slot for external speakers and headphones, but I have not used. I really have no need for sound.
All-in-all, it’s a decent unit. Use it for its intended purpose (light work) and it should work for you.

Acer Aspire One AOD255E Netbook (ep.5)

Beautiful netbook

I bought my Acer Aspire One AOD255 netbook-13639 at a local Kmart because it was $ 50.00 cheaper than Amazon so my review is on the unit itself rather than shipping / packaging. I guess Amazon is not the cheapest game in town more.
The Acer Aspire One AOD255-13639, in my opinion, a great netbook and I write my opinion on this point. The first thing I did was install Ubuntu 4.11 from a bootable USB drive with the Creator created boot disk included in last Ubuntu distributions; Menu> System> Administration Creator> Startup Disk.
Install Ubuntu Linux:
The installation completed without problems and I restarted in Ubuntu 11.04. Everything worked, gone are the days of spending hours trying to get a netbook with Ubuntu .. everything worked after restarting the netbook and I have not had a single problem. In addition, the line of Acer Aspire netbooks are “certified” by Canonical to run Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 distributions, so it’s almost guaranteed that Ubuntu will run successfully on these netbooks.
Autonomy:
Yes, the description says that the battery life is only 4 hours, but I took my netbook with me now for about 3 hours and still had more than 3 hours of battery when I got to home – I guess the time spent in suspension n ‘t account for the 4 hours of battery life in Ubuntu.
Panel widget:
I recommend to add the complete indicator applet on the panel, because it gives a little information about the system: Right click on the panel, choose “Add group”, choose comprehensive indicator applet, click the “Add “.
Lag System:
None.
Crashing / freezing:
None.
Pros:
1. Everything works .. I’m even using GIMP to create GTK2 themes and I have not had any problems at all.
2. I plugged a USB mouse, USB keyboard and VGA monitor and all these devices work out-of-the-box and without problems.
3. One of the best things about a Linux distro is that you can install and run an office environments or more window managers. I installed Fluxbox, XFCE and LXDE, but I’m not sure I’ll use it again.
Cons:
None I can think of, the system is running fast and stable on Ubuntu 11.04.
If you are looking for a budget netbook to run Ubuntu then look no further .. I am very pleased with this unit.
